Hilton International is to develop a five-star resort in the heart of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil - the first of its kind to be operated by an international hotel chain
The 196-bedroom Hilton Amazon Eco-Lodge is scheduled for completion in late 2005 and will be situated 180kms from Manaus, in Novo Airao, an area strictly protected by environmental laws. Guests will be offered an unrivalled ecological experience in one of the world's most important environmental regions.
The environmentally sensitive, single-storey lodge is being developed by a Brazilian company that specializes in eco-resorts and will be managed by Hilton as part of a plan to increase the company's presence in Latin America.
When fully operational, it is anticipated that over 300 staff will be trained to work at the lodge. In addition to traditional hospitality roles, the local population will be employed as guides to introduce visitors to the sensitive eco-system and the heritage of the local Indians.
