Honk Kong benefits from ECO-PAGES

ECO-PAGES is an environmental database including contacts for equipment and services in pollution prevention and control eco-products, green funds, green groups, environmental-related government departments, certification bodies, ISO 14001-certified companies, environmental event’s organisers and companies committed to protect the environment all over the world.

The recently launched ECO-PAGEs 2004 is the first bilingual edition, listing environmental contacts all over the world in English and Chinese.

It is compiled by a non-profit organisation, The Hong Kong Sustainable Communications Association (HKSCA), advised by the University of Hong Kong, and supported by over 40 trade associations, consulates, environmental organisations, private companies, volunteers and advertisers.

A free copy can be obtained by sending an email request to HKSCA at and collecting it from one of several locations in Hong Kong. It is also available at public libraries and local and overseas offices of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

The launch of the database was held at the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel Hong Kong in June with over 200 attendees.

At the event five companies, including the Kowloon Shangri-La, were appointed as Eco Champions to demonstrate their environmental commitment and take a leading role in protecting the environment in various areas.

Matthias Roeke, resident manager of Kowloon Shangri-La and chairman of the hotel's green committee said: "This recognition is a milestone in our important journey to ensuring control over potential environmental impacts, signifying that we are on the right track in terms of financial savings and hotel operations. We will continue our efforts in reducing the impact of pollution on the surroundings and making a genuine and strong commitment to unremitting environmental improvement. Recently we have produced a booklet sharing information on preserving energy and resources at home and in the office environment. It goes to all our guest rooms, staff, interested corporate accounts and food and beverage patrons. We hope that it will increase people's awareness of energy efficiency."
