Green Hotelier’s Editorial Plan 2016/17

For 2016/17  we have drawn up an editorial plan which details a monthly theme, tied to a specific global or industry event, or the activities of Business in the Community or the International Tourism Partnership.

Whilst we continue to run all the usual news, interviews, case studies and sustainability features throughout the year, our monthly theme will be the basis of our ‘Green Hotelier Talking Point’ and other insight and commentary pieces. We also welcome sustainability in destination pieces.

For our Talking Point features we will be looking for insight, blog posts, opinion pieces, case studies and features that fit within the monthly theme. If you would like to contribute, please see our Contributing to Green Hotelier Guidelines.

Our themes:

News, interviews and features welcome on our themes of energy / carbon; waste; water; supply chain; workplace; new builds & refits / retrofits; community / communication / engagement; policy / certification / economics. Also YCI and survivors of human trafficking.

In addition we have some regular / recurring features:

Best practice case studies:

  • Usually property led piece describing a hotel’s sustainability journey and achievements, with advice for fellow hoteliers. We have an interview format for this. Get in touch if you’d like a copy.

Talking Point blogs:

  • Presented as a challenge to the industry or raising awareness of an issue for hoteliers. Written by an ‘expert’ in an accessible blog style. Open to all. Email for further guidance.

Industry Leader interviews:

  • An interview with a key figure in sustainability in hotels. A brand’s or group Head of CR, or Chief Exec to discuss why sustainability is important for the company, and their personal observations on the changing shape of sustainability / CR. Open to others active in the field of responsible tourism.

Meet the GM:

  • Developing a new slot for properties to shine a spotlight on the daily ‘frontline’ of managing CR in a hotel, including staff training, labour issues, community issues, supply chain, energy, water, waste. Day-in-a-life or specific issue-led story.
