The new training quiz is designed to help hotel staff at all levels get up to speed with sustainable tourism. The free, web-based training quiz consists of four modules to help hotel staff understand why sustainability is important, and how their day to day activities can make a difference.
The modules are:
1. Sustainable tourism – what is it all about?
2. Protecting the environment
3. Think local, act local
4. Communicating with guests
The quiz is available on the Travel Foundation’s new training portal www.travelfoundationtraining.com and follows the successful launch of ‘Go Greener Holidays’, a beginners level course for everyone in the travel trade. Since the launch of the charity’s first online training campaign in 2008, over 15,000 industry staff have taken part.
Salli Felton, acting chief executive of the Travel Foundation, said:
The new ‘Greener Hotels’ quiz has been developed with hoteliers, specifically for those working in the hotel industry, to help staff understand how their day to day activities can have a positive impact on a hotel’s surroundings.
The quiz includes videos and explanations, and users can download a certificate at the end of the quiz, which can be used as part of a staff training and development programme. Fran Hughes, head of programmes at International Tourism Partnership, who brings together the world’s leading international hotel companies, said:
The quiz is simple to follow and provides plenty of concrete examples to help hoteliers understand what sustainability means for them.
Make Holidays Greener month, the Foundation’s July awareness raising campaign, is a great opportunity for hoteliers to kick start staff training by pledging for staff to take the Greener Hotels quiz. Several hotels have already made pledges, including Hilton and Karisma, and it's not too late to sign up here.
