East London kids get sporty for their community

Lite@Nite Kids 3

In September Thistle Hotels continued its charitable work for the community, as over 800 children from schools around Newham in East London got ready to “get, set, go” in the Lite@Nite Kid’s Triathlon.

This is the 2nd year running that Thistle has hosted events under its Lite@Nite umbrella for vulnerable kids in aid of; Kidscape, Barnardo’s, Kids Company, The Children’s Society, and the British Triathlon Foundation Trust.

Priding itself on the great locations of its nine London hotels, Thistle chose the capital and the Olympic borough as a focal point for the challenge for 8-13 year olds.  Participants swam 70 metres, biked 1000 metres and ran 500 metres at the free event which saw everyone go home with a Lite@Nite triathlon t-shirt, swimming hat, medal and great memories.

In partnership with the British Triathlon Trust Foundation and with the support of Active Newham, over 50 volunteers from Thistle helped to support the event. It is the second time in as many months employees have pushed the boat out for the Lite@Nite cause.  In August, 450 employees participated in a fundraising relay from Inverness to London – raising £66,000 by running, cycling and swimming their way down and across the country.

Mike DeNoma CEO of glh, Thistle’s parent company says, ‘we’re enormously proud of the commitment our hotels show to working as a team and supporting the charities who do so much good for vulnerable children.  We’re proud to be supporting the children of Newham, the back yard of so many of our hotels!’
