The group, part of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, has been recognised as the leading hotel company by the Ethisphere Institute in its list of the 2016 list of the World’s Most Ethical Companies. It is the 7th consecutive year it has attained this status and it is the only Belgian company to be listed.
2016 marks the tenth anniversary of Ethisphere and the World’s Most Ethical Companies list, which recognises those companies which align principle with action, working to build trust into their corporate foundation, and in doing so shape future industry standards by introducing forward-looking best practice.

Receiving the World’s Most Ethical Hotel Company award for the 7th consecutive year is an honour for all 40,000 Rezidorians.”
Being a seven consecutive year honouree highlights Rezidor’s commitment to leading ethical business standards and practices, ensuring long-term value to key stakeholders including customers, employees, suppliers, regulators and investors.

Meanwhile, a successful seven-year collaboration between EarthCheck and properties in the Carlson Rezidor Asia Pacific portfolio has achieved US$6.9 million in savings and an overall environmental footprint reduction of 23 per cent.
Eight of the group’s properties including its Singapore-based Asia Pacific headquarters have been awarded EarthCheck Gold Certification, and a further eighteen properties have been awarded Silver Certification.
EarthCheck Founder and CEO Mr Stewart Moore said the achievement confirmed Carlson Rezidor Asia Pacific’s position as industry leaders in environmental and business performance. He commended the group’s commitment to benchmarking its hotel operations and sustainability efforts.
Mr Moore said, “EarthCheck Certified is the tourism industry’s most scientifically rigorous benchmarking programme, backed up by independent audits, and our members cannot achieve Certification without doing the hard yards.”
Carlson Rezidor Asia Pacific President Thorsten Kirschke congratulated each of the twenty-six properties which have achieved Gold or Silver EarthCheck Certification, saying, “EarthCheck Certified supports the goals of Carlson Rezidor’s global Responsible Business Programme, both of which require significant commitment at management and operational levels.
“We believe what’s good for the planet can also be good for business, and we are thrilled to release such positive data-based evidence of cost and resource savings for these Carlson Rezidor Asia Pacific properties as we award certification today.”
Staff across all twenty-six properties have reported their environmental footprint to EarthCheck annually and permitted independent auditors to verify the credibility of their environmental and social claims.
“Our teams deserve recognition from the industry and our guests, who rightly expect properties under the Carlson Rezidor Asia Pacific brand to do what’s right for the planet,” Mr Kirschke said.
Since 2009, Carlson Rezidor properties enrolled in EarthCheck Certified have achieved the following milestone savings achievements:
Combined, these resource savings equate to US$6,860,025.
The twenty-six Gold and Silver Certified properties are continuing their annual benchmarking through EarthCheck Certified in 2016. Properties are annually benchmarked in a wide range of performance indicators covering environmental, social, energy, legal, community and the design aspects of hotel buildings and their operations against peers in their sector, region and climate zone. Specific global benchmarking standards include sustainable development policy, water and energy utilisation, waste management, paper usage, chemical usage, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Rezidor’s ambitious and award-winning Responsible Business programme dates back to 1989. The programme’s three core areas ensure care for guests, people and planet and act in an ethical way: Think Planet: minimising environmental footprint; Think People: taking care of the health and safety of guests and employees; and Think Together: community action and business ethics. As a member of ITP, Carlson Rezidor are also collaborating with 14 other leading hotels groups to make the industry as a whole more sustainable.
