Statement about ITP’s transition to Business In The Community

The International Tourism Partnership (ITP) is delighted to announce that as of 1st October 2013, it will be hosted by the responsible business organisation, Business in the Community (BITC). This move comes as ITP’s founding host organisation, the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), prepares to wind down its core operations. IBLF was (and BITC is) part of the Prince’s Charities group, with HRH The Prince of Wales as their president. As such, the two organisations are in some senses “family” with a shared history and many common characteristics.

Since its origins as the International Hotels Environment Initiative in 1992, ITP has grown from strength to strength as the voice for both environmental and social responsibility in the global hospitality industry.

ITP now has 16 corporate members with a collective reach of over 23,000 properties, more than 3.4m rooms and 1.5m employees in over 100 countries worldwide. Recent achievements include the creation of the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative, which has now been adopted by over 15,000 hotel properties around the world, and the expansion of the Youth Career Initiative globally.

Stephen Farrant, Director of ITP, says: “BITC offers ITP the ideal new home base from which to build and grow what we already do. It provides us with continuity of ITP’s existing governance arrangements, a financially stable and progressive home base for ITP to work from, and access to a much broader network of sustainability professionals and corporate partners. Taken together, this represents significant opportunities to take ITP’s work to the next level, and to identify potential new support for some of our key programmes globally.”

Stephen Howard, CEO of BITC, says: “This is a great match. ITP like BITC are mission driven. They have a deep sector knowledge and engagement across many countries so we can learn a lot from them; whereas we have much wider reach and a bigger membership base to draw on.”

While the office location and contact details are new, ITP will continue to operate in the same way as it has done in the past and its membership, staff, programmes and funding remain unchanged. See below for ITP’s new contact details, effective from 1st October 2013:
