TreadRight launches a new website to communicate project and partner progress
After The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation was re-branded as TreadRight late last year, the organisation has developed a new online space demonstrating what TreadRight does, its role as The Travel Corporation's corporate foundation, and how they support the sustainable tourism initiatives of their travel brands worldwide.
Shannon Guihan, Program Director for TreadRight comments, "To date, TreadRight has donated in excess of $1.5 million to sustainable tourism and conservation projects all over the world. We now are able to showcase the stories behind these projects, from staff volunteering for Sustainable Coastlines in New Zealand, to Red Carnation Hotels' work on Carbon Management to AAT Kings & Uniworld's support for Little Penguins . We invite you to explore all of TreadRight's projects by using the new interactive map , and familiarize yourself with our newly established project themes ."
In May the organisation will be launching phase two of the website, which includes a social media aggregator, allowing all social media activity related to project partners, brands and TreadRight themselves to be featured in one place.
TreadRight works by helping organisations build new and existing initiatives that support the sustainable development of tourism. Their projects follow four funding themes; water, biodiversity, leadership and community. TreadRight is financially supported by all brands that make up The Travel Corporation, and a growing list of experts in sustainable tourism and conservation work as project partners.
Brands include Red Carnation Hotels and Uniworld, which Green Hotelier is particularly excited about following as their sustainable initiatives go from strength to strength. Soon floating hotel managers at Uniworld will receive guidance on environmental management through The Sustainable River Cruising Pack that's in development with The Travel Foundation and, alongside their work with the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative, Red Carnation Hotels' Bushmans Kloof in South Africa has been recognized several times for its environmental initiatives.
Goals going forward include continuing to develop existing initiatives and identify new projects. One of TreadRight's core aims is to get guests to engage with their sustainability projects. Through its brands the Travel Corporation has the capacity to reach a large number of travellers and they hope to instill an understanding of responsible tourism and create local ambassadors for change amongst guests.
