Visitors to the London Heathrow Marriott hotel recharging their batteries before or after a long flight can now recharge their cars too!
The hotel showed their commitment to environmental responsibilities by activating their two Electric Car Charging Stations last Friday
The hotel joined forces with car giant Renault along with Zero Carbon World who donated the Electric Charging Stations to the hotel, and demonstrated exactly how these stations worked.
The opening was attended by the Tesla Roadster, an electric supercar that can go 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds, plus two of Renault’s latest electric offering from their Z.E. range; the Fluence Z.E., an electric saloon and the Kangoo Z.E. an electric van. Whilst the Tesla and the Kangoo took their positions by the charging stations in the car park, guests at the hotel could not believe their eyes as they were greeted by the Renault Fluence saloon, taking pride of place in the middle of the hotel lobby.
As a worldwide leader in the lodging industry, Marriott understands the importance of the moral and ethical responsibility of protecting the environment for guests and future generations, as well as conserving natural resources and reducing energy costs.
Ron Vos, General Manager of the London Heathrow Marriott said: ‘Environmental issues are at the forefront of everyone’s minds, and we at the London Heathrow Marriott are very pleased to show our commitment to these issues by supporting green transport initiatives”.
At the event, Howard Thomas, Z.E. Product Manager, Renault UK, commented, "As the leading manufacturer of electric cars and vans, Renault is delighted that Marriott Group is supporting the adoption of electric vehicles in the UK through initiatives such as the installation and promotion of its two new charging points, courtesy of Zero Carbon World, at its prominent Heathrow site.
The environmental and cost benefits of running an electric vehicle compared to the average fossil-fuelled vehicle are widely recognised, so we hope that this is just the first step of their journey with electric vehicles as the public's interest in them continues to grow."
Zero Carbon World has donated charging stations to the hotel and leisure industry to support the development of a national charging infrastructure. Founder, Kevin Sharpe, said, "We are delighted with the Marriott's commitment to conservation issues and have been thoroughly impressed with the pro active and steadfast commitment to installing electric vehicle charging stations. We hope to see more charging stations installed at other Marriott locations over the coming months"
Each Charging Station is simple, robust and reliable and comprises a 13-Amp socket and 32-Amp connector. Zero Carbon World is donating 1000 Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations to businesses around the UK. Successful applicants also join 'Zero:Net' – the only unrestricted National Electric Car charging network in the country.
'There are no restrictions to use Zero:Net,' said Kevin Sharpe Founder of Zero Carbon World and Chair of the Trustees. 'You don’t have to be a member, subscribe, pay in advance or use a smart card to access electricity. Wherever EV drivers are, they can recharge while eating, sleeping, working or simply relaxing. We are extremely proud to be creating the UK’s only Open Charging Station Network”.
The London Heathrow Marriott is offering free electric car charging and parking for anyone staying at the hotel that has an electric car.
Zero:Net is growing rapidly with 140 donations to date.
