Seven Staffordshire businesses are celebrating after being awarded the new Staffordshire Environmental Quality Mark (SEQM), a Destination Staffordshire initiative, after proving their commitment to greener practices and sustainable tourism in the region
SEQMs were granted to the Dog & Doublet, Sandon; The Moat House, Acton Trussell; The Swan, Stafford; The White Hart, Leek; Lymestone Brewery, Stone; Essington Fruit Farm, Essington; and Treasure Trails, making a total of 15 SEQM accredited businesses in the county.
Awards were handed out at a recent SEQM and Staffordshire Business and Environment Network (SBEN) event entitled ‘How to Use your Environmental Achievements to Promote your Company and Gain Business’. The event looked at the benefits of SEQM accreditation, and how accredited businesses can communicate their environmental achievements to customers.
The SEQM is awarded to Staffordshire tourism businesses which help to conserve and enhance the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Staffordshire, as well as minimise the local and global environmental impact of their activities.
Destination Staffordshire, a great supporter of this initiative, is a private/public sector partnership of major attractions, tourism businesses and local authorities created to develop and drive leisure and business tourism economies in Staffordshire. Membership currently stands at around 450 establishments and is drawn from all sectors of the tourism industry.
Simon Smith, SEQM Project Officer commented: “All seven of the newly accredited businesses show a huge amount of enthusiasm for Staffordshire, and promoting and protecting the features which make it so special. They also show a very high level of commitment to reducing their impact on the environment, which will also bring them their own benefits in the form of reduced costs, customer loyalty, and unique marketing opportunities.”
The next SEQM Award Panel is scheduled for 13th June, and businesses interested in the scheme can visit www.eqm.org.uk/staffordshire to find out how to apply.
