The ITP’s Youth Career Initiative (YCI) celebrated the graduation of 14 young people from their Ethiopian country programme based in Addis Ababa on 10th August.

Championed by the Sheraton Addis Ababa since 2004, in nine years the initiative has seen 43 young people trained and graduate from the Sheraton.

This is the first year of a new partnership framework in the Ethiopian capital with the Radisson Blu hotel which launched its first YCI programme with six trainees earlier this year. Together with the Sheraton’s fifth YCI cycle of eight trainees and the help of local coordinating partner SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia, the happy graduates completed their education and training with flying colours.

The initiative and successful graduation was picked up by AfroFM a local English speaking radio station, and in their feature Radisson Blu Addis Ababa hotel General Manager Christopher Pike, SOS Children’s Villages National Director Aster Asfaw and YCI Programme Coordinator Emili Budell explained the great opportunity a programme like YCI represents for young people in the city. These youngsters have the motivation and ability to start a promising career but frequently lack the opportunities to make positive life choices.

Their smiling faces hopefully tell a different story for these young graduates.
