The International Tourism Partnership (ITP) brings together the world’s leading international hotel companies to provide a voice for environmental and social responsibility in the industry. We work to demonstrate in a very practical way that environmental and social responsibility makes good business sense.

  • Tackling emerging sustainability issues through our collaborative working groups

The combined reach of the ITP membership extends to nearly 23,000 properties, over 3.2m rooms and more than 1.5m employees in over 100 countries worldwide. ITP has a unique leadership role within the hospitality sector to address the challenges of sustainability.

ITP is a programme within the International Business Leaders Forum.

Purpose of the role

Manage and maintain the Green Hotelier online magazine and website.

Green Hotelier is an online publication specialising in sustainability news relevant to the hotel industry from around the world. Alongside regularly updated industry news and events, the website also contains longer articles; destination features, thematic features,

Accountability to Head of Programmes, ITP

Key responsibilities

  • Create, commission and manage content for Green Hotelier website, including commentary, interviews, case studies and thought pieces, either on a voluntary basis or written by the Editor
  • Identify topical stories to attract and retain readership
  • Develop and manage editorial strategy
  • Ensure Green Hotelier’s visibility to its audiences online and through social media. This includes;
    • Maintaining a regular presence for Green Hotelier on Linked In, Facebook and Twitter
    • Identifying and developing other channels of communication (e.g. blogs, feature writing, seeding of Green Hotelier content etc.)
  • Maintain and develop industry relationships with relevant PRs in order to secure a constant stream of relevant content
  • Create and distribute monthly newsletter
  • Create strategy to achieve monetised advertising on the site and build visitor numbers and site engagement in order to achieve this
  • Monitor activity on Green Hotelier and evaluate the impact of ITPs communications strategy

Skills, experience and personal characteristics

Essential:

  • A creative, ‘ideas person’ – but also detail‐oriented!
  • Editorial and copywriting skills, with the ability to identify newsworthy stories and the best way to communicate these and produce compelling content relevant to the subject and medium of communication
    • Experience of using social media for business purposes
    • Strong interest in corporate responsibility & sustainability
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident to communicate with external organizations
    • Ability to put together and send out newsletters on topics of current interest
  • Sound experience of WordPress
  • International perspective and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to take responsibility and use own initiative
  • Minimum two years experience in a similar role

Desirable:

  • SEO experience
  • Ability to set up and run advertising strategy
  • Contacts in the travel / hotel / sustainability industries

Fee:

Consultancy fee will be in the range of £120 - £180 per day, depending on level of skills and experience.  This will be for one month initially, with the potential to renew at the end of the month.
