Guests at Starwood Hotels and Resorts around the world will be treated to some great experiences this weekend to help them celebrate Earth Hour.

Earth Hour is marked around the world on Saturday 19th March from 8.30pm to 9.30pm local time. Organised by WWF, Earth Hour asks people and businesses to turn their lights off for an hour to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprints and to raise awareness of climate change

Earth Hour began as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then it has expanded to more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide in over 162 countries and territories. Hundreds of millions of people all over the world join together and switch off their lights for an hour in a show of support for environmental action.

Andrea Pinabell, Vice President of Sustainability at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide said, “Climate change is a great concern for our associates, guests and the ongoing success of our business. Earth Hour is an opportunity for our properties around the world to have an impact while engaging guests. Everyone plays a role in protecting and promoting our planet.”

Many Starwood properties are taking part, but the highlights include:

The Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa will have a charcoal live cooking station by the sea under the stars with acoustic music by associates and candlelit tables. Air conditioning in all guest rooms will be switched off as well as lights in all restaurants.
