Integrating the issue of freshwater management into the operations and supply chain is a key focus of Kuoni Group’s corporate responsibility strategy. Following Kuoni Groups’ Stakeholder Dialogue, four working pillars to manage freshwater resources in the destinations were identified; raising customer awareness, creating standards for the supply chain, promoting technological solutions to reduce water consumption, and applying water footprinting / accounting methodologies. These efforts are addressed with hotel suppliers under the Kuoni Water Champions Programme.

The Kuoni Water Champion Award validates hotels’ commitment to measure water consumption and implement efficient water management systems. To support hotels during the implementation phase in Thailand, Kuoni in collaboration with the local consultant Nicolas Dubrocard of LightBlue Environmental Consulting developed and published a sustainable water management manual in English and Thaï. The aim of the manual is for the end-user to have the tools necessary to implement step-by-step a sustainable water management in their own operations, including an accompanying set of Excel worksheets which calculate water consumption and the cost-benefit analyses of improvement mechanisms automatically.

Aiming to improve knowledge and understanding in the tourism industry, the Manual is available online and in our Tools section.
